We Had 350 Matches In 4 Hours

"This Isn't Possible With Any Other System. We Had 350 Matches in 4 Hours."

“We had 50 entrants to our second Rumble, and each of them got to fight seven matches over just four hours. This speed would be impossible with any other electronic scoring system,” says Master Jong Hyun Yi, Headmaster of the American Tigers World Taekwondo Dojang in Westborough, Massachusetts.

“You don’t need any external systems to run your Rumble with 20/20 Armor. There are no socks or computers—just the vests themselves. It was really nonstop matches. It was amazing.”

Big Results with Lower Costs

Master Yi’s Rumble had 50 participants, each paying $60—grossing $3,000.
Thanks to the video game-style scoring on the 20/20 Armor vests, he needed 80% fewer judges. He was able to use his black belts as referees.

How He Got 350 Matches in 4 Hours

Since three other schools participated, they spent the first half hour building camaraderie and doing target drills. Then, Master Yi explained the 20/20 Armor system.

“The system is so easy to understand that kids just get it and know how to operate it,” says Master Yi.

The first two hours were self-sufficient:

  • Kids were split into divisions.

  • They found their own matches.

  • Trained staff refereed—an expectation for all black belts.

“They just do it like machines,” he adds. “Whoever is in the center is kicked out once they’re done, and the next match starts.”

In the last two hours:

  • They moved to three brackets: Youth, Cadet, and Junior.

  • Double elimination gave kids a second chance after their first loss.

"We Saw a Different Side of the Kids"

To boost participation, Master Yi offered a championship belt instead of a trophy.

“I always wanted a WWF Championship belt,” he laughs. “I grew up watching Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan. I didn’t know kids were still watching. But the kids went nuts for it.

“I can’t even describe how excited people were—everyone was shouting and cheering, especially during the final matches. We ended up seeing a different side of the kids. Some of them actually got better in those four hours.”

Connecting to Other Local Schools

As the only school in his area with 20/20 Armor, Master Yi invited nearby schools to join the Rumble. That not only created extra revenue—it gave his students the chance to build friendships with others who shared their values.

“We used to love getting in the ring with friends when I was growing up,” he says. “But I noticed my kids were reluctant to fight. 20/20 Armor gets them excited to get in the ring.”

His ultimate goal? Teaching resilience.

“Nothing does that better than getting knocked down during sparring and learning how to get back up again. My kids loved the Rumble. I can’t wait to hold my next one.”
